7 Mistakes to Avoid When Comparing Task Bar Hero Gear
A side-by-side Gear table can save time in Task Bar Hero, but only if you read the comparison within its limits. The most common mistakes happen before the arithmetic: selecting the wrong rarity variant, overlooking a required level, mixing unlike units, or treating a missing value as zero.
Here are seven mistakes I would check before using a Gear comparison to guide an upgrade or farming decision. The aim is not to find one universal winner. It is to make sure the facts on screen support the conclusion you are drawing.
1. Comparing Names Instead Of Exact Records
Two Gear entries can share a familiar name while representing different rarity variants. If you compare only the display names, you may think you are checking the items in your inventory while the table is actually showing different catalog records.
Confirm the exact rarity on both sides first. Then review required level and Gear type. Those fields establish which released records are being compared and whether either one is relevant to the current character.
This identity check should happen before reading a single delta. Correct arithmetic for the wrong item pair is still the wrong answer.
2. Looking Only At Combat Stats
Combat rows naturally attract attention, but the summary fields can change how useful an item is to a particular player.
Check the upgrade-slot count alongside required level and Gear type. Also note the published Cube EXP and Alchemy Gold fields when they are available. These values add record context, but they are not live market prices, guaranteed profit, or a complete model of the game economy.
A slightly larger combat value does not automatically outweigh a slot or requirement that matters to your build. Keep the summary and stat sections visible during the decision instead of jumping straight to the largest colored number.
3. Ignoring Base And Inherent Labels
The source of a value matters. A base stat and an inherent modifier may both appear in the comparison, but silently treating them as the same kind of property removes useful context.
Read each value together with its source label. If the two sides look unexpectedly different, check whether you are comparing matching fields before assuming one record is stronger. Preserving base and inherent provenance makes the table auditable and helps explain why a row exists.
This is especially useful when sharing a comparison with another player. A number without its source invites guesswork; a labeled value gives the other person something concrete to verify.
4. Subtracting Incompatible Units
Flat, percentage, and per-second values are not interchangeable. The fact that two cells contain numbers does not make B - A meaningful.
Before reading a delta, confirm that both rows describe the same stat and use compatible units. If one side is flat and the other is a percentage, the appropriate result is not comparable. The same caution applies when a per-second field is placed near a one-time value.
Do not invent a conversion just to keep every row numeric. A blank or incompatible delta is more informative than precise-looking arithmetic between unlike quantities.
5. Reading A Positive Delta As “Better”
When the units are compatible, B - A gives a transparent difference between the two published values. That is useful arithmetic, but it is not a Best-in-Slot verdict.
The delta does not model hero scaling, skills, enemy defenses, buffs, rotations, clear time, or the rest of the current build. It cannot decide whether an upgrade slot or inherent modifier creates a more important interaction somewhere else.
Use positive and negative deltas to locate the rows that deserve attention. Then bring your actual build goal back into the decision. The calculator shows the difference; the player decides what that difference means.
6. Treating Unavailable As Zero
Zero means the catalog publishes a value of zero. Unavailable means the active published data does not supply a value for that record and field. Those states should never be merged.
If one side is unavailable, substituting zero manufactures a delta from missing evidence. It may make the table look complete, but it also creates a conclusion the catalog does not support.
Leave that row unresolved. Do not borrow the value from another rarity variant or assume that the missing property has no effect. Community-maintained data can be incomplete, delayed, or incorrect, so a visible missing state is also a reminder to recheck the record after a release update.
7. Expecting One Table To Model The Whole Build
A released-record comparison has a deliberately narrow job. It can show exact record details, source-aware values, units, missing states, and compatible arithmetic. It cannot simulate every hero, skill, enemy, buff, rotation, or encounter.
That boundary is not a defect. It keeps the comparison understandable. A universal equipment score would require assumptions about how every relevant mechanic should be weighted, and those assumptions may not fit the player or the situation.
Use the table as the factual layer of a decision. Add build-specific observations separately: what hero you are using, which interaction you care about, what content you are attempting, and which tradeoffs you can accept.
A Quick Review Before You Choose
Before acting on the result, ask:
- Did I select the exact rarity variant on both sides?
- Did I check required level, Gear type, and upgrade slots?
- Are base and inherent sources still visible?
- Do the compared rows use compatible units?
- Is any unavailable value being mistaken for zero?
- Am I treating B - A as arithmetic rather than advice?
- What build context is still outside the table?
If those answers are clear, the comparison is much easier to explain and revisit.
